Russian Olive Tree Survey
Hill County, Montana
Overview
The Hill County Conservation District contracted Peaks to Plains Design to complete a vegetative survey analysis of Russian Olive trees in the Milk River watershed. I was responsible for notifying selected land owners of the project and explaining the potential benefits of removing the invasive tree species. Once permission was obtained to enter the landowners properties, I surveyed the trees using backpack-mounted GPS equipment. Notes were taken for each property identifying dense growth areas, access issues, and land-owner requests that would be used to complete a grant application. The survey covered dozens of properties scattered in an area of more than 1,300 square miles.
